Nick Diaz: 'Fighting is not something that I enjoy doing'

“I don’t recommend anybody be a fighter,” Diaz admitted on a Wednesday media call. “Fighting is not something that I enjoy doing, it’s something that I do that I feel I have to do. That’s just the way it is. There’s a lot to it.”

“I don’t enjoy fighting,” Diaz said flatly. “I don’t use that word (excited) in this sport. I use that word like maybe I’m starving, and food is showing up. I’m getting excited. That’s excitement. Or I’m excited to have a couple of days off. I’m excited to fight somebody? I don’t know if people are confused with that term when it comes to fighting.
“Would you enjoy fighting Anderson Silva?”

Nick on his time off “I never really made the statement that I was retired,” Diaz said. “What I meant by the whole thing is that you’re never really retired from martial arts. It just doesn’t happen. Some people just don’t look at martial arts the same as I do. They don’t have the same perspective or didn’t get into this the same way.
“I just pretty much needed some time off, regardless, and you don’t really get time off in the UFC without retiring or getting hurt, and I guess I don’t break easy like some of these guys.”

White says Gina Carano deal near – and she'll likely fight Ronda Rousey in December

Rousey has been a major factor in signing Carano and booking the title fight, White said. The UFC compared the champ’s motivation to now-former welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre’s desire to fight Nick Diaz prior to their grudge match at UFC 158.
“Ronda’s been very good to us, and if that’s the fight she wants, then I’m going to try to get it done,” White said.

B.J. Penn's legacy is secure

“He was the first jiu-jitsu guy to have great hands, real high-quality boxing, and great wrestling skills that he combined with his jiu-jitsu,” Renzo Gracie says. “That’s why they called him ‘The Prodigy,’ because of how fast he picked all that up. If people remember him as being not as good as we say he was, it’s because, in people’s memories, you’re only as good as your last fight.”
“Don’t just look at him now, in this stage,” Jens Pulver says. “Look at the old B.J., back when he still had hair. Look at what he did, and when he did it.”
“They had just barely cleaned it up and put gloves on guys,” Pulver says. “And then in comes this B.J. Penn, this phenom, with people saying he was the most amazing thing on two feet. And he was. He was that good. He did things we didn’t know were possible back then.”
“I’ve thought a lot about B.J. over the years,” says Yves Edwards. “To me, he’s definitely a legend. He was one of the best guys from that era. He fought in multiple weight classes, and man, B.J. never ran away from a fight. That’s the thing about B.J., though. He always wanted a little bit more.”

Joe Rogan asks Ronda Rousey to headline UFC 176 on short notice, Dana White blows up

Rogan asked "Rowdy" if she would be interested in making an absurdly quick turnaround and headline UFC 176, which takes place at Staples Center in Los Angeles, Calif., on Aug. 2, 2014. White screaming at the top of his lungs at Rogan, saying (paraphrase), "That was the stupidest fucking question ..."
