UFC champ Jones or Gustafsson next? Daniel Cormier gives his pick

“I’ve earned a title shot,” he said after UFC 173. “I’ve got five top 10 wins. I’m undefeated. I haven’t lost a round. I haven’t lost a fight.”
“And in two weight classes too,” UFC President Dana White interjected.
“Yeah, my resume speaks for itself,” Cormier said.
“It means something to beat Jon Jones,” Cormier said. “I know [we all] praise Alexander Gustafsson for what he’s done. He’s a great fighter. But it means a little more to beat a Jon Jones.”
“Against Jones, that’s a tough hill to climb, man,” he said. “There’s just no (easy way to) beating Jon Jones. I’d have to have my best performance. Knowing I was fighting for the title shot, I’d train as though I didn’t (just) have my best performance (against Henderson). I just think styles make fights, and I match up well with him.
“We haven’t really seen him on his back for an extended period of time, but if I get on top of him, I think I can hold him down and get some offense off on him.”“If they come up with something good, I’ll fight,” he said. “I’m not afraid of anybody. I can beat every one of these guys, so I’ll fight them all.
” … I want to be the champion. That’s really why I started fighting. I’m 35 years old, and it’s not like I’m a kid. I can’t wait too long.”

Dana White: Fans overreacting to UFC champ Jon Jones' eye-pokes

“I mean, people are always going to go overboard with Jon Jones because they don’t like him,” White told MMAjunkie.“It’s not just taller fighters,” he said. “Jones has that range and he can do it, but lots of guys do it because that’s how you block punches. So you keep your hands open and you slap punches down. Then guys are rushing in and you’re doing whatever, and guys get poked in the eyes.

“Guys have got to start closing their hands, and if you’re going to keep your hands open to block shots, which everybody does, you’ve got to keep your hands closer to your face, not extended in your opponent’s face.”

“[Jones] poked him in the eye twice, and then the referee warned him about it, and he never did it again,” White said. “They’re making it sound like he was targeting his eyes and sticking his fingers in his eyes the entire fight and nobody did anything about it. He did it twice, he was warned, and he never did it again in a five-round fight.”
