'Cyborg' Justino in talks for multiple title fights, still eyes Ronda Rousey

Invicta FC is targeting “Cyborg” for a featherweight title defense in a reboot of a previously scheduled match. Invicta FC President Shannon Knapp told MMAjunkie the promotion wants to pair Justino with Ediane Gomes (10-2) for Invicta FC 8 in March.

Knapp said 2014 could also see the dominant fighter drop down for an exploratory, non-title run at 135 pounds, the territory of her fiercest rival: UFC women’s bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey.

“I think she could make 135 for a few fights; I just don’t see her doing it for her career,” Prajin said. “[The UFC] just didn’t make it easy. They wanted six fights, and they also didn’t want to share the (pay-per-view) revenue with Cris, and those are just a few things that we felt weren’t fair.
“If the UFC really wanted this fight to happen – if Ronda really wanted to show the world … that she’s the best in the world – then step up. Say, ‘Hey, I’ll gain that extra five pounds.’
“She’s fought at 154 in the Olympics and 145 in Strikeforce. But obviously, she’s hiding behind the fact that she’s the 135-pound champ and she doesn’t have to do anything. Well, Cris is the 145-pound champ. If Invicta had a 155-pound title, she’d go up and win the belt, and also go down to 135, because I don’t think anyone has a chance with Cris.
“[Invicta] is a relationship we want to continue for a long time, and Shannon’s been so great to us,” he said. “But contractually, [Justino vs. Rousey] could happen in the fall. And to be honest, I think if the UFC offered the fight, I don’t think Shannon would stand in the way. I think she’d be very supportive, and even if she were contractually bound, I think she would allow Cris to fight Ronda in the UFC. I know that for a fact.”

Dana White's latest on proposed Anderson Silva vs. Roy Jones Jr. boxing match

Silva had expressed his desire in meeting the 45-year-old Jones, who’s posted a 57-8 record since his pro debut in 1989. And after the latest loss, Silva reiterated it.

“This stuff drives me crazy,” White said. “But it’s always interesting with Anderson. I don’t know. We’ll see.”“Anderson a long way away from throwing a punch or a kick or anything, so let’s see how he recovers before we start talking about fights,” he said.

Anderson Silva Wants A Third Fight with Chris Weidman

“I believe that, if you pay attention to these technical details, you will see that (Weidman checking the kick) was instinct, not something that he trained to do,” Silva said. “No, I don’t think (Weidman should consider it a win). It was an accident. And I’m pretty sure I would have won the fight…

To land the perfect kick, I needed to distract him by punching him in the face so he wouldn’t pay attention to the kick. He was protecting the upper part of his body, and the raised leg instinctively. The kick was so strong he lost balance…I saw my mistake, and now I’m only worried about my comeback. If the UFC thinks I deserve another opportunity (against Weidman) or if I need to earn it. I just want to do what I do, it doesn’t matter if it’s for the title or not. I want to do what I do well.”

Jon Jones vs. Glover Teixeira set for April 26 at UFC 172 in Baltimore

Jones (19-1 MMA, 13-1 UFC) will meet Glover Teixeira (22-2 MMA, 5-0 UFC) at UFC 172 on April 26 at Baltimore Arena in Maryland. The event will be the UFC’s first visit to the city .

Former UFC champ Georges St-Pierre won’t rule out return

“I needed to take some time off to relax, to feel better and to have fun to do it again if I ever wanted to come back,” St-Pierre told the Ottawa Sun. “When you do something for a long time, you have a lot of pressure. People don’t realize how much pressure I have. It’s a lot of expectations.”

“I spent Christmas time and New Year’s with my family,” St-Pierre said. “That’s something I haven’t done for a long time. This is the first time I’ve really had nothing on my schedule. It was perfect. It was fun. It’s the first time I felt so good.
“I’m 32 years old and this is the first time I have Christmas with my family. I spent some time, but I never really had free time, total free time like I did. It was time for me to do it. I’m very happy I did it and I don’t regret any of it.”
“Because I’m an obsessive guy, I give myself a challenge which automatically will mean me working on it to obtain it,” St-Pierre said. “So right now I take a break. I don’t give myself any preference, you know? There is a chance I will come back.
“Christmas was incredible and now for 2014 we’ll see what’s going to happen. I have some projects in mind. I can’t talk about it, unfortunately.”
